Steven R. Barchus

Foundation Director

To honor the obligations we took and be able to provide gracious assisted living, and quality long term care to our brothers, sisters and friends, The Nebraska Masonic Home Foundation looks to maintain and improve the beautiful grounds and structures so they may last for years to come.

Thanks to generous donors like you, we are able to meet our financial goals to complete projects that make our residents’ lives as comfortable and enriching as possible. Every gift sent to us, no matter how large or small, helps us maintain this grand Home and provide top-notch care for our residents.

Read on to find out more about our current projects. Giving is as easy as clicking the button on any project.

Hultman Day Room

A popular gathering place, The Hultman Day Room is the nerve center for our building. It offers a piano, big screen TV for Husker games (complete with popcorn), Wii bowling, sporting events and community channel events, aviary, card games, conversation centers, and a puzzle area. This is a place that draws people together, promoting fun and jocularity. This room should always have the rumble of joy exuding from within!

This project includes: a complete renovation and modernization of the space.

Goal: $30,000

Chapel

Over the past several years we have had issues with moisture and peeling paint in the Chapel. This is now a restoration project. Anyone who has been here knows how special the Chapel is with the beautiful stained-glass windows surrounding the room. The Chapel is used for a multitude of things such as presentations, movies, and meetings. The Chapel is a vital and important part of The Home. We want to fix, upgrade, and polish this wonderful space back to or even better than its original glory.

This project includes: addressing the moisture issues, lift issues, seating, lighting, sound, and other updates to make this well-used space into an inviting gathering place.

Goal: $50,000

Memory Care Center Makeover

Our Memory Care Center is absolutely gorgeous.  While there are not as many residents that live in this area it is an area that gets a lot of hard use.  The furniture is being upgraded.  While this process has started, we would love to have your help finishing this project.

This project includes: durable resident recliners and sofas and other furniture for visitors.

Goal: $30,000

DONOR SPOTLIGHT

Dave Knutson, Omaha, NE

EEK! I turned 70 this year. What is my future? Answer: Planning! Since my retirement, I wanted to move forward and enjoy life and not be a burden to my children. I have been involved with The Masonic Home since the mid 70’s and am honored to serve on the Board of Trustees. My commitment to The Home became a reality when my mother was a resident. What a great experience for her and my family for her to receive care in an enjoyable environment. The Nebraska Masonic Home is in my future, and I ask my brother Masons and family for The Masonic Home to be in your plans.

Game Rooms & Common Areas

We are listening to our residents who feel our common areas should be an extension of their rooms where they can enjoy going out and gathering for coffee, games, the news, and maybe even a movie or two. We want to enhance these areas and make upgrades to the room that has a pool table and other common areas. We want to add activities like shuffleboard and electronic games as well as a couple big screen tv’s and an entertainment area with a dry bar and refrigerator. Maybe even splash on a new coat of paint. An active home is a happy home!

This project includes: painting spaces, purchasing interactive games & electronics, furniture for entertaining and relaxing.

Goal: $30,000

Patio Furniture & Garden Boxes

Let’s get our hands in the dirt and have furniture that is usable for our residents on our patios.  Garden boxes bring joy to those of our residents who loved to garden before coming to The Home.  Gardening is therapy for the soul.  For those who do not like the dirt we would like to have a comfortable area to relax and enjoy the outdoors.  This includes chairs and furniture that are usable by our residents and umbrellas to keep them out of the sun.

This project includes: replacing and adding new furniture and sun shade sails as well as additional garden boxes.

Goal: $25,000

Patio “Paradise”

This space is surrounded by concrete and is very warm in the summer months. We would like to make improvements that make this space more useable. We picture a comfortable outdoor space to gather with family and friends during the summer months. We want to encourage our residents to enjoy the great outdoors and fresh air.

This project includes: furniture, canopy, and colorful pots.

“I am very grateful for The Nebraska Masonic Home, and I would live there if I needed to.”

Nancy Hull
Daughter of Resident Helen Blom

“My dear mom has resided at The Nebraska Masonic Home for 3 1/2 years. She is 102 years old. She is so happy and content, and I know this is because of the loving and excellent care she receives each day. Many on the staff have become extended family for her and for me too. I am truly grateful!”

Mary Jo Osterholm
Daughter of resident Doris Hirz

"Mom moved in when she was 96 years old and was able to decorate her own place, enjoy the many fun activities and look forward to delicious meals. In April, Mom turned 103 years old. Mom still gets a sparkle in her eye when she says, "I just love this place!""

Sharon Jones
Daughter to resident Zella Grant

"My mom is a new resident at The Nebraska Masonic Home. With the help of a dedicated and caring staff she has transitioned well, is involved in activities, and has been welcomed by other residents. "

Steve Hunt
Son to resident Vada Hunt

"In November 2019 I moved my dad into The Nebraska Masonic Home. It was a difficult decision, because I live in Florida. My Dad receives incredibly loving care, and I know without a doubt, if he had been anywhere else during Covid, we would have lost him."

Cheryl A. Rizk
Daughter to resident James Ryals

"The regular health checks with my dad and family let us know his condition and help us to understand his medication needs. We are so glad we chose The Masonic Home for his care."

Jim Fleming
Son to resident Ballard Fleming

"Our family has been so grateful for the caring, welcoming home The Nebraska Masonic Home has provided for our mom (and Dad prior to his passing). She thrives on socialization and would be much more isolated if trying to live on her own. Mom enjoys the activities and the beautiful grounds surrounding The Home."

Debbie Carson
Daughter to Ken and Corky Fleming
